The Case-Mate Pop! iPad Case Review (iPad 2)

Case-Mate continues to impress us with their level of quality, customer service, and variety.  The search was on for an iPad case that provided top level protection, with a stylish, sporty look.  We were really impressed with the Pop case for iPhone, and the iPad version does a good job of further perpetuating the quality reputation that Case-Mate has built around it’s Pop! line of cases.  Here is the official review…

Serious Protection without the Trade-Off
There are plenty of iPad cases out there that offer adequate protection.  The problem is, many do that by sacrificing size and style.  They look bulky, and completely cancel out the slim size of the iPad.  The Case Mate Pop is a perfect in-between, and for many, this will hit the sweet spot.  The depth is right at about 1/2 inches, and the actual case thickness comes in at under 1/4 of an inch.  This case is comprised of two different materials.  A hard plastic (the part you see in white) and a soft silicone (gray).  The hard plastic wraps all the way around the back, as well as the corners, acting as a tough line of defense.  To add extra grip and enhance feel, Case Mate chose to incorporate two strips of silicone along the outer sides of the case.  I believe this was a smart move, as the two strips really give you something to grab on to while holding your iPad.  Additionally, there is a kick stand incorporated in to the back of the case.  When closed, it is completely flush with the back of the case, and accessible via a tab you can grab with the tip of your finger.  Around the corners of the kick stand you will also find strips of silicone, which help reduce the chance of the iPad sliding around.  While not in use, the kick stand snaps securely back in to place.

The Interior
The inside of the Case Mate Pop is completely lined with silicone.  Not only does this provide shock absorption, but it will also keep the back of your iPad free of scratches.  In addition to the lining the inside, silicone also lines the edge of the case, which helps to protect the screen as well as add additional shock protection.

The Downsides
In all honesty, I’m having a tough time coming up with a downside that wouldn’t be a matter of opinion.  One thing you may want to note is the fact that this shiny plastic does show scratches.  This fact is inherent with virtually any case made of this material, but it’s still something to keep in mind.  Overall, this case does what it’s intended to do without any apparent issues.



In Summary
If you like the look of the Case Mate Pop, then this case should be a strong option for you.  The Pop manages to position itself right in that middle ground in terms of style and protection.  The fit is precise, the design is functional, and on top of that, it looks great.  It is for these reasons that we rated the Case Mate Pop for iPad 4 1/2 stars.
