Incipio Silicrylic – Shock absorption paired with hard shell protection

The Incipio Silicrylic case is one that is well thought out, simply designed, and properly executed.  It’s protective and functional while maintaining the iPhones slim profile.  Pairing hard plastic with soft silicone has proven to be a winning combination for various case manufactures, and we’re seeing methodology applied once again with the Incipio Silicrylic.  That said, there are still a few things we feel like you should have a heads up one before you take the plunge. We’ll get in to that and more in this review…

Construction
The Incipio Silicrylic (or “Sylicrylic” as it is sometimes misspelled) is comprised of two different materials.  Working in tandem, the soft silicone inner decreases shock on impact, while the hard shell outer takes the brunt of the force.  The two materials form a symbiotic relationship, as the ‘exoskeleton’ also helps the soft silicone maintain it’s form.  It is a very simple and effective design.  The hard plastic has a matte feel to it, and it slides easily in and out of the pocket.  It’s very pleasant to the touch, as it almost feels ‘soft’.  All cutouts for the iPhone’s controls and ports allowed for unhindered access, and we did not find any usability issues whatsoever.  Another plus is the wide range of color options available:

Surprising protection in a slim profile
Given it’s slim profile, this case does a surprisingly good job of protecting your phone.  While the silicone layer is thin, it is just thick enough to get the job done, and the fact that the hard plastic covers the corners is an added plus.  Couple that with the fact that Incipio includes a cleaning cloth and a screen protector, and you’re set with 360 degrees of protection.

Things to consider
While the silicrylic is a great case, we did find a few things that kept us from giving it a 4.5 or even 5 star rating.  First and foremost is the possible lack of long-term durability.  While our particular review case seemed to be built to high standards, some users have reported the corners cracking, and starting to break off.  Again, we didn’t have any problems with our case, but we wanted to make you aware of these reports.  Another thing to consider is that this case produces a slight glare when using the iPhones flash to take pictures.  It’s not near as bad as some we’ve tested, but it is noticeable.

Our Review in Summary
The Incipio Silicrylic is a strong contender.  If you’re looking for a case that is going to provide you with some solid protection while only adding minimal size to your iPhone, this should be one that’s at the top of your list.  At $12.12, it’s at a price point that makes it that much more tempting.  Chances are, you’re going to be quite pleased with this case from Incipio.  We feel confident giving this case 4 out of 5 stars, along with our recommendation.
