Snugg Distressed Brown Leather Review – Earth-tone meets protection
When we first opened up this case from Snugg, we were pleasantly surprised. Ergonomically, there are some things we noticed right off the bat (which we will dive in to), and you can’t deny that that it’s quite attractive. We thought this was a good case for a white iPad, and the color combo proved to be very pleasing. It is durable, well-constructed, and high-quality throughout. Although it’s not actually leather, it looks and feels close to the real thing. It’s a leather/vinyl combo that Snugg dubs as ‘PU Leather’. A little misleading, but not a deal-breaker for us. In this review we’ll talk in depth about what we really like, as well as a few things we think that Snugg could have done better.

Construction
Contrary to the name, the distressed leather case from Snugg is not actually made from real leather. We’re fans of this fact however, as no animals were killed in the making of this case, and it still has a surprisingly pleasant smell. It feels very similar to real leather, and unless you inspect it closely, you’ll never tell the difference. It is durable, and very attractive. All of the perimeter stitching is top notch, and we didn’t see any weak points in this case. On the front cover is a neatly embossed (and quite subtle) “Snugg” logo, and on the rear you will see a small cutout for the camera and a flap to secure it while standing up.

Open it up, and you’ll see a hand strap on the inside of the cover, as well as a precisely cut leather border around your iPad. Again, we think this case looks absolutely killer with a white iPad. The brown and white have a very classic look when paired together.

The inside is comprised of a different material than the cover. It feels very much like suede, and matches the outer shell nicely. The hand strap is made of the outer material and connects at the top and bottom with black elastic. One nice attention to detail with this case is the fact that it incorporates the auto-lock function of the iPad. There is a small magnet inside the cover flap that not only helps keep the case closed, but also ‘sleeps’ and ‘wakes’ your Pad when opening and closing the cover. Your device is held securely in the case by a leather flap that slides over the left side of the iPad and attaches to a small piece of velcro behind it.
All cutouts on the Snugg case allow for unhindered access to your iPads physical controls. We found them to be well placed, and appropriately sized.
As a stand…
The Snugg has two basic angles for standing your iPad, and both are in landscape orientation. Both are shown above, and both options utilize the rear flap. In certain situations, you could get creative and stand it up in other ways, but these are the only two options that give you any real stability.

We think you should know
There are a few things to be aware of with this case. First of all, you won’t have any portrait stand option. Portrait orientation is not used near as often as landscape, but still, something you should be aware of. Also, there is no corner protection for your device in the event of a drop. We think Snugg could improve this case with at least some kind of material between your iPads corners and the floor. In our opinion, neither of these issues are deal breakers.

Our Review in Summary
Overall, It’s a solid product with nice features. The magnetic auto lock implementation is an appreciated addition, as well as the hand strap. While we do wish it offered some kind of portrait stand orientation, it wasn’t something we couldn’t live with out. Quite honestly, this might be one of the best looking cases we’ve paired with a white iPad, and it’s a fantastic option for anyone looking for a quality ‘leather’ case. We feel confident giving the Snugg Distressed brown leather our recommendation, as well as a 4 star rating.
